CHANGE OF PLANS

In the end, instead of applique-ing the yellow fabric onto the calico, I decided to instead do stitching to create a fake tweed effect. I wanted to use a variety of threads ranging in different thicknesses too. I used an orange denim thread which gave a really cool 3D effect, however, I do believe that it was too thick and jammed up my machine many times, breaking all my needles! Without the applique, the other seams and curves of panels could be seen better and would come across as a lot neater. Even when I sewed using a normal thickness thread bobbin thread, the machine would still jam up and I would need to use tweezers to pull out the thread.

In my initial plan I also mentioned how I wanted to fasten the front and back together by press studs, however, a tutor suggested using zips and I actually like this look a lot more as it has that futuristic look to it.
