MOODBOARD

These were the first images that came to mind when I first came up with this idea. I had the image of the thermal cameras in mind, however, I looked closely at contemporary fashion designs, especially the trend of having the overlocking stitch exposed on the outside. I also looked into cut-out shapes in clothing as well as organic and original seams and openings as I wanted my piece to look geometric, abstract and sculptural. Because of my large influence from inanimate sculptural objects, I looked into how architecture from different decades and cultures can be of inspiration.

After looking through Pinterest, I found many examples of patchwork/ collage inspired clothes, some ranging from a lot neater and organised to very messy and rough. I wanted to combine both these styles in my piece by sewing the panels really neatly, but juxtaposing them with frayed edges or exposed stitching. I think this gives my piece more character alluding to the complexities of our young impressionable minds. I absolutely loved the contrasting textures of fabric and how they always complimented each other by categorising them within a similar colour scheme (pastels/ muted tones/ bright tones).

PERSONAL TAKE:

Above making a costume, I wanted to create a sculpture that people can resonate with and potentially wear. Being one with the costume is something that I strive for more than my viewers outwardly seeing it as a piece of clothing. I personally like it when viewers are slightly unable to tell how the costume could be worn, as it shows innovation and creativity in the piece.
