CONNECTION TO OLD WORK

Throughout my time on TSP, I've created a few aprons for my characters and wanted to bring that design back into this piece. I am also very interested in corsets so I thought to combine the two to create a type of 'half-corset' that also looked a bit like armour. Based on my survey, the stomach was the top on the list of negatives and the lowest on positives, proving that I ought to delve into the representation of this specific insecurity.

In a modern society where slim, flat, unbloated stomachs are worshipped and encouraged through the rising trend of crop tops and low waist 'y2k' bottoms, it's not a surprise that girls feel the pressure to maintain this extremely hard ideal. I wanted to therefore create a piece that was different to the clothes we see in today's shops. I wanted to create something that was flattering in all areas but still accentuated the natural shape of a person. I created an elongated bodice that was cinched in at the waist with cutouts to achieve the century-old desire for an hourglass figure. I also wanted to make sure the bodice was comfortable to put on as many girls could be easily triggered from purposely squeezing into tight clothes too small for them in order to 'shrink' themselves.
